How Gregory Group handles it.
Texas files more hail claims than any other state, and Denton County takes its share. Most of it arrives between March and June, often in the late afternoon, and it rarely falls evenly. One street can come through a storm untouched while the next loses shingles, gutters and window screens.
Hail damage is hard to see from the ground. A hit on an asphalt shingle knocks granules loose and bruises the mat underneath, and the roof may look fine for months. The bruise is where the shingle starts to fail: granules keep washing off, the asphalt underneath dries out, and a leak shows up long after anyone connects it to the storm.
How It Works
Inspect
Using a checklist, a trained inspector goes over the critical areas inside and out to find the source of the problem.
Educate
You get a list of any damage with photographs, a plain explanation of what needs repairing or replacing, and answers to your questions.
Perform
The same person who inspected your roof sits down with you to go over the damage and your options, including pricing and payment plans. The work then runs with a project manager on site and a magnet sweep and cleanup at the end.
The Difference
The details that decide the outcome.
A storm damage inspection means walking every slope. Hits are marked in chalk, counted in test squares and photographed alongside the soft metals that show hail size best: vent caps, turbines, gutters and downspouts. Wind damage is checked separately, because creased and lifted shingles often sit on the same roof as hail marks.
What you get back is a report with photographs of what the storm did and a plain explanation of it. That report is what an insurance adjuster reads. When it is thorough enough, a claim can move faster, and when a claim has been denied on the grounds that the damage was not storm-related, documentation is what gets a second look. We have taken photographs and a full inspection report back to a carrier on a denied claim and had it overturned on re-inspection.
Not every storm leaves damage worth a claim, and the inspection is also how you find that out. Cosmetic hits on soft metal with sound shingles, or wear that comes from age rather than hail, are not storm damage, and you should hear that before you open a claim that will be denied.
When the damage is real, the choices are repair, replacement, or a claim that pays for one of them. If a replacement is on the table, it is also the moment to consider Class 3 or Class 4 impact-resistant shingles, which stand up better to the next storm and may lower your insurance premium.
If a storm has opened the roof and water is coming in, the first job is keeping it out. Emergency service is available around the clock, and our emergency repair page covers what to do while you wait.

Storm Damage, answered.
How soon after a hail storm should I have my roof inspected?
As soon as it is practical. Most policies require damage to be reported within a set period after the storm, and a bruised shingle keeps losing granules with every rain. An early inspection also gives you dated photographs of the damage.
My roof looks fine from the street. Could it still be damaged?
Yes. Hail bruises rarely show from the ground. Dented gutters, downspouts or vent caps, granules collecting at the bottom of downspouts, or neighbors getting new roofs are all reasons to have someone walk it.
Does a storm damage inspection cost anything?
No. The inspection is free, and you are under no obligation to file a claim or hire us afterward.
What if my insurance company says the damage is not from the storm?
Ask for a re-inspection and send the carrier the photographs and report from your roof. Denials are sometimes reversed once the damage is documented properly, and we can walk the roof with the adjuster on the second visit.
Is wind damage handled the same way as hail?
It is inspected the same way and usually covered under the same part of a homeowners policy. Wind tends to crease, lift or tear off shingles rather than bruise them, so the photographs look different.
